Chiappa is known for its extensive line of lever-action rifles based around Winchester’s classic Model 1886 and 1892. The company's Wildland series brings these designs into the 21st century, with “tactical” features, like aluminum fore-ends and adjustable buttstocks. The company is returning the Wildland series to its roots with the 92 Field and Core, rifles that keep it simple while still offering modern features.

With the Field (pictured) and Core, Chiappa returns its Wildland series to its traditional roots with minimal nods to modernity.

Both new models are based on Chiappa’s 92 lever-action and are chambered for the .44 Mag. cartridge. According to the company, the Field is “for shooters who want modern utility without sacrificing traditional aesthetic.” Its 16.5-inch round barrel has its muzzle threaded 5/8x24 TPI for use with suppressors or other muzzle devices. An under-barrel magazine tube stops just short of the threads, yielding an eight-round capacity. With a traditional top-eject action, the Field is set up for forward-mounted sights. A Skinner Picatinny rail is mounted to the barrel for attaching optics. The rail also has a rear aperture sight that pairs with a front post with a fiber-optic insert.

The Field uses a pistol-grip buttstock with a medium-sized lever.

Differing from other models in the Wildlands lineup, the Field uses a solid walnut stock. The buttstock has a pistol grip profile with a matching medium-sized lever. Other features include a rubber recoil pad and quick-detach sling swivel studs. The fore-end has a tapered diamond profile and three metal inserts with M-Lok attachment points. Both buttstock and fore-end are checkered. Its MSRP is $1,255.

The Core is a minimalist design that combines a traditional profile with a few modern features.

Chiappa says the Core “strips away extra tactical bulk to deliver a clean, minimalist interpretation of the modern lever-action rifle.” Though it shares its barrel and magazine configuration with the Field, it uses an angle eject action for use with rear-mounted optics and its receiver is drilled and tapped for a mount. Sights are of a traditional barrel-mounted pattern, combining a front blade with an open rear buckhorn. Its straight-grip buttstock and tapered diamond profile fore-end are also made of walnut and devoid of checkering. Three low-profile metal M-Lok inserts are hidden in the fore-end. It retails for $1,100.
