Anyone who has ever hunted or who appreciates fine firearms has desired a double rifle. While a double rifle is the classic dangerous game gun, most of us don’t have the need for the elephant-stopping cartridges for which they are chambered for or can afford the cost, which can run well into the five-figure range. Pedersoli brings the double rifle into both affordable and practical territory with their Kodiak Survivalist Compact Express Rifle chambered in .44 Mag.

As Pedersoli notes, the Kodiak Survivalist Compact Express Rifle combines “old-world detail with serious performance,” like many of the company’s other products. Designed for European driven-game hunting, for the American audience the company calls the rifle “a gentleman’s survival rifle.” It starts with a traditional, twin-barrel, break-open action that generations of dangerous game hunters have relied upon for reliability and quick follow-up shots. It has double triggers and a sliding tang safety.

The Pedersoli Kodiak Survivalist is a compact double-barrel express rifle scaled around the .44 Mag. cartridge.

While express double rifles tend to have the weight and bulk necessary to tame the recoil of the magnum cartridges for which they are chambered, the Kodiak Survivalist is scaled around the .44 Mag. cartridge. Its barrels are 18 inches in length and have six-groove rifling with a 1:20-inch twist rate. With an overall length of 35.5 inches, it weighs a mere 5.73 pounds.

The Kodiak Survivalist has an oil-finished walnut stock and fore-end that are checkered.

The Kodiak Survivalist has an oil-finished walnut stock and fore-end that are checkered. The barrels are blued and the action is case-hardened. Its barrel rib is drilled and tapped for optics mounting, and a Picatinny rail section with a front sight and rear sights with fiber-optic inserts are available separately (MSRP $170).

A sight set with fiber-optic inserts and Picatinny optics rail are available as accessories.

The Pedersoli Kodiak Survivalist Compact Express Rifle has an MSRP of $2,705. For more information, see the company’s website.
