Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center allows the company to give custom-level features to factory-built firearms, from the company’s M1911s to its M&P 15 rifles to its revolvers. The company's popular line of M&P polymer-frame, striker-fired pistols have often received the Performance Center treatment. New for 2024, Smith & Wesson is introducing the Performance Center M&P Carry Comp Series.

The Smith & Wesson Carry Comp pistol being fired. The Performance Center Carry Comp series uses the newly designed Power Port system to control recoil.

While ported Performance Center versions of the M&P have been offered in the past, the Carry Comp series has unique features. A newly designed “Power Port” system places a port at the 12 o’clock position in the barrel, with a corresponding port in the slide, to divert gas upward to control recoil.

The new “ClearSight Cut” on the optics-ready slide diverts gas away from the optic’s sight picture. Iron sights are a tritium front night sight and blacked-out serrated rear. Additionally, all new Carry Comp models feature a new slide profile with front and rear serrations, Performance Center flat-faced triggers, and a gray Armornite finish on the slide.

The micro-compact version is the Shield Plus. This compact carry pistol, with a 10-round capacity with a flush-fit magazine (it also ships with a 13-round and a 15-round extended magazines), has a 4” barrel for an overall length of 7” and a weight of 17.9 ozs.
