The lever-action renaissance is not slowing down, with new models introduced that both celebrate the heritage and history of the design and those that attempt to take the lever gun to its most modern and tactical extremes. Derya Arms got its start importing firearms from its parent company in Turkey and now has a manufacturing base in the U.S. as well. The company's latest entry in the lever-action market, the RAN series of rifles and pistols, seeks to “reimagine” the modern lever gun.
The basis of the RAN series is a mono-block steel receiver that is top eject and loads the underbarrel tubular magazine through a side loading gate. Safety is provided by a cross-bolt in front of the hammer. RAN firearms are available chambered in three popular revolver cartridges: the .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt. All barrels are threaded (1/2x28 TPI for the .357 Magnum and 5/8x24 TPI for .44 Magnum and .45 Colt). Other standard features include M-Lok accessory slots in the forearm and a fixed front sight, adjustable rear sight, along with a Picatinny rail for mounting optics.
Derya’s RAN series will be initially offered in three distinct models. The RAN rifle has a walnut stock, but its material is where the tradition ends. Both the buttstock and forearm have built-in M-Lok slots. Metal parts are given a polished nickel finish. With a 20-inch barrel, it weighs 8.27 pounds. It has an MSRP of $849.
The RAN Ironwolf has a black Melonite finish. Its unique furniture includes an aluminum handguard with both M-Lok slots and a section of Picatinny rail. The aluminum Ironwolf buttstock has an adjustable cheekpiece, and the stock’s drop is adjustable. It also has M-Lok slots and QD swivel spigots. With an 18-inch barrel, it weighs 8.27 pounds. It has an MSRP of $999.
The RANX pistol has a black Melonite finish and a 12-inch barrel. Its aluminum handguard has both M-Lok slots and a section of Picatinny rail. At the rear, it has an Ironwolf grip that mounts a folding Steel Fang pistol stabilizing brace. It weighs 5.48 pounds and has an MSRP of $899.
