Armed Citizen® Today

A Jewish father was with his two young children at a crowded park on April 3 in Miami Beach, Fla., when another man approached and asked if they were Jewish. When the father confirmed that they were, the stranger allegedly unleashed a tirade of cursing and antisemitic slurs, followed by threats.

The father attempted to de-escalate the situation, as did others witnessing the event, telling the man to keep back and to stop, but the man instead charged at the family. The father then drew his firearm, deterring the aggressor long enough for police to arrive. Later police reports indicate the suspect claimed multiple times he was just "exercising his First Amendment rights," that he was Muslim and “does not like Jews.” He faces charges of assault with prejudice based on religion. From the Armed Citizen® Archives – June 1987

A man armed with a toy gun and a can of Mace entered Mike Stratton's Eugene, Oreg., pharmacy and demanded narcotic pain killers. Telling the robber he had just been hired and pretending not to be familiar with the drugs, Stratton bided his time until he could get to his revolver, then ordered the intruder to lie on the floor while a clerk telephoned police. Police said Stratton handled the situation well. (The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oreg.)
