Low-power variable optics (LPVO) with illuminated reticles have dominated the category of magnified optics for use with modern sporting rifles (MSRs), with the versatility of close-range shooting with a 1X optic combined with the ability to engage targets at a longer distance. More than just a cheap plinking cartridge, the .22 LR is a serious training tool with many manufacturers making their own rimfire MSR. For that market, Primary Arms is introducing its CLx 1-6x24 mm SFP rifle scope with its tuned-for-rimfire ACSS 22LR G2 reticle.
Primary Arms first introduced its Advanced Combined Sighting System (ACSS) bullet drop compensator reticle for the .22 LR cartridge in 2014 in a 6x32 mm scope, which the company still offers in its Classic Series. The new “Gen 2” reticle has holds calibrated to 36-40 grain bullets traveling 1,000 to 1,200 fps.
With the center dot zeroed at 50 yards, the aiming dots below are spaced in 25-yard increments to 200 yards. Each line has horizontal dots, which provide 5 mph wind holds. The reticle also functions as a range estimator, as the BDC stadia lines are sized at the width of a clay pigeon at that distance. Center aiming dot illumination is powered by a single CR2032 battery and has 11 brightness settings.
The new reticle is placed in the CLx 1-6x24 mm second-focal-plane scope. Primary Arms has called the CLx series “performance-driven options for budget-conscious enthusiasts.” It uses a 6063 aluminum body with matte black anodization that is nitrogen purged, fog proof, and waterproof, and dust proof to IP67 standards.
Moving between its 1X and 6X magnifications is aided by an extended lever on its adjustment ring. Adjustment turrets have a 0.5-MOA click value. With a 30 mm tube, it has an overall length of 10.6 inches and weighs 17.21 ounces.
The Primary Arms CLx 1-6x24 mm rifle scope with ACSS 22LR G2 reticle has an MSRP of $199. For more information, see the company’s website.
