The National Post, a Canadian news source, reports that “the majority” of law-enforcement agencies across Canada are disregarding their federal government’s mandated Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP).

Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have recently been joined by Yukon and Northwest Territories police and police-union officials in announcing that they would not be participating.

One official noted “significant gaps” in the program and noted that their forces “must focus on initiatives that have the greatest impact on community safety.” Another official stated outright that if gun owners didn’t proactively turn in firearms, “We’re not going looking for you.”
