American Rifleman Field Editor Sheriff Jim Wilson has contributed numerous magazine articles and countless "Sheriff's Tips" and videos to NRA Publications properties, sharing his knowledge, wisdom and advice on what he knows best: firearms and personal defense. Now Sheriff Jim—writer, singer, gunslinger—is the subject of an Amazon Prime documentary in which gun writer Richard Mann gets “Up Close” with this legend of the great American southwest.

In this 37-minute film, produced by Panteao Productions, LLC, in conjunction with Nighthawk Custom,  Sheriff Jim sits down for a jam session (literally) with gun writer Richard Mann to talk about growing up in Texas, becoming a peace officer, and writing for gun magazines, while sharing some of his best tales about southwestern lawmen.

After graduating college, Sheriff Jim Wilson started his law enforcement career as a patrolman in Denton, Texas. From there he moved to southwest Texas as a Chief Deputy and later became Sheriff of Crocket County, Texas. After serving two terms there, Sheriff Jim became a regular contributor to several magazines, and has since written for most all of the major gun magazines. He also has three country western albums.

The Amazon Prime documentary on one of the iconic members of the gun world is a first for the firearm industry. “It was an honor to produce this project and spend time playing music and visiting with a dear friend,” said Richard Mann.

“In a day and age of people being famous for their social media prowess, it is rare to have the opportunity to sit with someone with the history and knowledge that someone like Sheriff Jim Wilson has amassed in all his years," said Panteao Productions President Fernando Coelho. "It was a no brainer to film Sheriff Wilson telling his stories and hearing his music.”
