Among the many different Turkish-produced shotguns arriving stateside, one of the more popular designs is the AR-style, semi-automatic, box-fed shotgun, versions of which are offered by multiple makers. One of the latest is the Tokarev USA TT-12 Pro, which includes a number of enhanced features that aren’t seen on other models. Watch our latest “Gun of the Week” episode above to see the details.

“A lot of AR, sort of, profile going on here,” American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune said. “You know, the the Tokarev has followed the trend of trimming away some of these accessory rails on the handguard, so you've got a little bit easier area to grasp. You can do your C-clamp up front. It's even got a little ramp there where the front sight is mounted.”

One nod to the AR accessories market is the fact that the TT-12 Pro not only comes with an AR-style pistol grip, but the receiver is designed in such a way so as to allow for the addition of any AR-pattern grip on the market.

“The other thing that's nice, shotgun-wise, is this actually is a choked barrel,” Brune said. “So it comes with three choke tubes, so you can adjust your shot dispersion that way.”

Controls on the Tokarev TT-12 Pro are mostly bilateral, including the bolt hold-open, magazine release and selector switch located on both sides. The reciprocating charging handle is located on the right side when it comes from the factory, but it can be easily pulled out and inserted into a slot on the left side of the receiver for those who prefer to charge from the left-hand side of the gun.

“This is an AR-style buttstock here. This is fixed. It is not adjustable,” Brune said. “But what's interesting is there's actually a little separation here, and you can remove this. And underneath here, there's actually a six position extension. So you can add an AR-style adjustable stock on this if you would like to.”

The gas-operated TT-12 Pro is outfitted with an 18.5-inch barrel complete with a 3-inch chamber, and the gun has an overall length of 38 inches and an unloaded weight of 8 pounds, 9 ounces.

“For something that, you know, you can go out and just run and gun with, the Tokarev TT-12 Pro, it's got everything you need and it's actually pretty affordable, too,” Brune said.
