Modern manufacturing techniques have resulted in great value for the money when it comes to hunting rifles. Billet-machined aluminum and high-tech synthetic materials render rifles that are not only affordable, but accurate and good-looking, to boot. Yet hunting remains a traditional activity, and some of us just like the feel of a nice wood stock. For those purists among us, Sako has introduced its new-for-2026 Grizzly.
The Grizzly is based around the company’s 90-series bolt action, introduced in 2023, which is renowned for its safety, accuracy and reliability. Using a three-lug bolt with a 60-degree bolt throw, it has dual plunger ejectors and a pivoting extractor. An owner can select from five possible pull weights on the user-adjustable trigger, and the trigger position can also be adjusted without having to remove the action from the stock. The magazine is a detachable box, but the receiver’s ejection port is cut so that it can be top-loaded with the magazine in place.
What makes the Grizzly special is its high-grade walnut stock, which has a classic profile and a flat comb that is ideal for low magnification or reflexive sights and is accented with a rosewood fore-end tip and grip cap. The rifle’s barrel and receiver are made of stainless steel and are given a Graphite Black Cerakote finish. A medium contour, the 22.4-inch cold-hammer forged D18 barrel is fluted to save weight and add rigidity, and has its muzzle threaded. Picatinny optics mounts are machined integral to the receiver. Available chamberings include 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win., .270 Win., and .30-'06 Sprg. The rifle weighs 7.1 pounds.
The Sako 90 Grizzly has an MSRP of $3,139 and is sold through authorized Beretta dealers. For more information, see the company’s website.
