During the early morning hours of Sept. 23, a man broke into a home in Austin, Texas, and proceeded to the bedroom. A homeowner shot the man when he reached the bedroom. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the intruder succumbed to his injuries. It was noted that the homeowner was fully cooperating with the investigation and no charges had been filed. (City of Austin Police Department report; Austin, Texas; 9/24/26)

A crime spree ended when a man who had tried to rob two other grocery stores in Milwaukee, Wis., entered Jamal Masoed's grocery and began beating the owner with a piece of concrete. Masoed fell to the floor and grabbed a handgun from under the counter. Firing twice, the owner critically wounded his attacker. (The Sentinel; Milwaukee Wis.)
