A man in Bertie County, N.C., discovered another man allegedly attempting to break into the residence on the morning of Sept. 15. He held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
Police arrested the 44-year-old suspect and tied him to another robbery, for which the evidence included finding some of the stolen items at his residence. He now faces charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. (wcti12.com; New Bern, N.C.; 9/15/26)

A Jacksonville, Fla., woman was awakened in her apartment by a knife-wielding intruder who tried to blindfold and gag her with pieces of torn clothing. The woman was able to reach a handgun and fire once, killing the would-be rapist. Police said no charges would be filed against the woman. (The Times-Union; Jacksonville, Fla.)
