Armed Citizen® Today

An Illinois concealed-carry holder came to the rescue of a woman and her children, shooting a man as he attempted to kick in the back door of the family's apartment, according to Chicago police.

Sources say the 33-year-old suspect began threatening the woman inside the apartment before attempting to force his way in. The woman called police and a 28-year-old relative for help, and the relative was able to arrive at the scene before police. The man continued trying to force his way into the apartment, breaking a bedroom window in the process, while threatening to kill the family. The 28-year-old relative, who possessed a valid Illinois CCL, fired at the man, striking him several times.

When police arrived, the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers said the deceased suspect had been arrested 64 times since 2009 and had been convicted 11 times. Less than a month before the shooting, the suspect had been arrested and charged with domestic battery and two counts of criminal damage to property, but a judge granted him a pre-trial release. From the Armed Citizen® Archives – September 1976

A cross-country crime spree came to an abrupt halt when an Illinois man attempted to rob Floyd Selleck's Palm Bay, Fla., gas station. The robber entered the station and began firing at Selleck, hitting him in the hand and arm. The station's owner's son Arthur returned fire with a .25-cal. semi-automatic handgun, fatally wounding the thief, who was suspected of several car thefts and armed robberies in Illinois.
