While the company is mostly known for its metal-frame, hammer-fired DA/SA handguns, Beretta jumped into the striker-fired, polymer-frame pistol market with the APX in 2017, followed in 2022 by the upgraded A1 series in 2022. New for 2026, the company is adding another first to the APX lineup with the first factory ported model.
The APX A1 Ported carries the features of the A1 family, including its modular serialized stainless-steel chassis, improved ergonomics, interchangeable backstraps, an optics-ready slide that uses adapter plates, an enhanced fire control mechanism and Beretta’s Aqua Tech Shield finish on the barrel and slide. The Ported model is a full-size APX with a 4.25-inch hammer-forged barrel and is chambered in 9 mm Luger. The barrel has a single angled port that aligns with seven ports in the slide, resulting in a flatter shooting pistol with less muzzle rise.
The APX A1 Ported also introduces new oversized controls. The magazine release is reversible and a slide release is positioned on both sides for ambidextrous usage. These changes hint that the Ported model is intended for competitive shooters. Iron sights are a hi-viz orange front post and a black serrated-face U-notch at the rear. The pistol has an overall length of 7.5 inches, a height of 5.6 inches and weighs 28.5 ounces.
The APX A1 Ported is available with either an olive drab green (ODG) grip module and black slide or flat dark earth (FDE) colored grip module and slide. Each finish option is available with three 10-round magazines, three 15-round magazines, or two 15-round magazines and one extended 21-round magazine. All models have an MSRP of $629.
