Taurus USA joined the micro-compact handgun market with its GX4 in 2021, and within the last five years, the company has expanded its GX4 line with a number of options, including optics-ready and XL models. More recently, though, the company added a unique variant to the line in the form of the GX4 Strike Bravo. "This is still a handgun. But what Taurus has done is rather than have your usual polymer handgun frame that just ends the beavertail and the end of the slide, they've molded in this entire section back here that provides clearance for that slide to reciprocate fully," American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune said. "And at the end, it has an M1913 Picatinny rail interface that allows for the attachment of braces like this Strike Industries that comes included on the gun."
The Taurus GX4 Strike Bravo is still equipped with a short 3.7-inch barrel and has a standard-length grip frame that accepts a 15-round detachable box magazine with the same capacity as the company's GX4XL models. However, with the Strike Bravo chassis and brace, the overall length increases to 18.38 inches, and the weight increases to 34.9 ounces, unloaded.
"But some of you might be asking the question why? And it kind of goes back to the whole handgun concept in particular," Brune said. "You know, handguns really are a compromise. They're a compromise in terms of firepower. They're a compromise in terms of handling. You sacrifice a lot in order to get portability and concealability. So what this does is this makes up for some of those deficiencies."
The Taurus GX4 Strike Bravo is also equipped with a 1/2-28 TPI threaded barrel, allowing for the attachment of a suppressor, and there are some additional features, like the included charging handle at the rear of the slide, the T.O.R.O. optics-mounting system and a Picatinny accessory rail on the dustcover for lights and lasers.
"You know, Taurus has done a lot with its GX4 line in particular," Brune said. "And what this Strike Bravo system does is really give you so much more stability and capability in a handgun platform that you may already be familiar with."
