When a stern request to go away didn’t dissuade a Texas woman from breaking into a neighbor’s home, the homeowner shot and killed the burglar. Montgomery County law enforcement officials are investigating, but early indications stated that the defensive shooting was justified. “She actually opened the screen door and started coming in the back door,” Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack told a reporter from The Courier. “The homeowner advised her not to come in the house and feared for her life.” The suspect was shot in the abdomen and was pronounced dead upon arrival at an area hospital. The armed citizen was not injured during the incident. (The Courier, Montgomery County, TX, 10/23/17)

An armed robber entered a convenience store and pointed a gun at the clerk, but the clerk was intent on not becoming a victim. The clerk was able to retrieve his own gun and fire at the criminal. When police arrived, they found the robber on the ground in front of the store suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment. The store clerk was not harmed and cooperating with investigators. (Douglas County Sentinel, Douglasville, GA, 11/23/17)

January 1965
An 18-year-old Stockton, Calif., youth, John G. Burnett, returned to his home for lunch. When he heard noises coming from a bedroom, Burnett got a cal. .22 rifle and surprised an intruder in the act of burglarizing the home. Burnett kept the gun on the robber and called police. The man’s truck was found parked a block away, and contained cameras and other items which the man reportedly admitted taking from another home. (Stockton Record, Stockton, CA)
