If you make a short list of the most influential handgun designs of the 20th century, the CZ 75 would make the cut. One of the first “Wonder Nines,” the CZ 75 combined a double-action/single-action trigger mechanism with a double-stack magazine. Standing out from everything else that was available at the time, it was widely copied in either part or whole. A half century since its introduction, Česká zbrojovka (CZ) is honoring that legendary status with the CZ 75 Legend.

The CZ 75 Legend returns the design to its original specifications.

Over the years, CZ has updated and modernized the CZ 75 design. According to the company, the Legend “returns exactly as it left the production line in the 1970s – an authentic, technically accurate original.” Its slide and frame are made of steel, with the “inverted” slide traveling inside the frame. The original ergonomics are maintained with easily accessible controls and the Legend uses authentically-styled polymer grips.

Internally, it has the patented single-arm lever trigger that gives the design a light, smooth, and consistent trigger pull in both double-action and single-action modes. The left-side manual safety combines with a safety notch on the spurred hammer and a firing pin block.

Internally and externally, the CZ 75 Legend stays true to the original design introduced half a century ago.

A full-size handgun, the 9 mm Luger-chambered CZ 75 Legend has a 4.5-inch barrel, with an overall length of 8.1 inches, height of 5.7 inches and weight of 41 ounces. Its finish is a matte blue. Sights are fixed and use three luminescent dots. Magazines have a capacity of 16 rounds, and two are included with each pistol.

The CZ 75 Legend maintains the excellent ergonomics of the original, including its manual safety.

The CZ 75 Legend has an MSRP of $1,399. For more information, see the company’s website.
