A woman and her boyfriend were outside a nightclub in Tulsa, Okla., on July 26, when a man threatened them and bragged about having served time for murder. Reports do not indicate how they resolved that threat at the time, but the 41-year-old man apparently followed them home or found out where they lived and broke into their apartment at about 5 a.m. the next morning. The boyfriend shot the intruder dead. (okcfox.com; Oklahoma City, Okla.; 7/27/26)

Chester Blanchard was in the kitchen of his Stark County, Ohio, home when he heard his back door being forced. A masked and hooded intruder entered and fired at Blanchard. The 61-year-old homeowner responded by grabbing a handgun and opening fire, seriously wounding his attacker. Blanchard, the victim of a burglary two weeks prior, said, "He must not have been able to see anything except straight ahead, which probably saved me." (The Beacon Journal; Akron, Ohio)
