Armed Citizen® Today

A man began beating his female partner inside of a shop in Lake Elsinore, Calif., causing the shop owner to intervene. The man exited the store, leaving his partner and the owner inside, but he returned a few minutes later.

After coming back inside, the 220-pound attacker shoved the shop owner to the ground, charged his partner and began hitting and kicking her. At some point during the attack, the man armed himself with a metal object and began beating the woman.

During this second assault, the shop owner pulled out a gun. The attacker came after the shop owner, who fired a single round, striking the man in the abdomen. The attacker fled out the back door of the business, and police found him later after a brief search.

The attacker faces a litany of charges, including suspicion of second-degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/co-inhabitant, terrorist threats, receiving known stolen property, vandalism and probation violation. (Patch, Riverside County, Calif.)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives May 1960

Bartender Curtis H. Scott closed his East St. Louis, Ill., tavern for the night, walked past the nearby alley, and was accosted by robbers. The thieves forced him at gunpoint to return to the saloon.

Pushing the bartender inside, the bandits grabbed the cash box containing $823 and were about to leave when the burglar alarm went off.

Scott pulled his .32-cal. revolver and fired. The panicky bandits abandoned the loot in their haste to reach the getaway car. They made good their escape, but two surrendered to police shortly after dropping off their bullet-wounded companion at a local hospital. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
