Taurus introduced its GX2 pistol last year with the phrase “affordable doesn’t mean cheap.” It was a no-frills pistol designed for self-defense and concealed carry that had all the features that you needed and none of the extras that add cost. As handgun optics are becoming more of a must-have accessory, Taurus is adding that option to the GX2 with the GX2 T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optics Ready Option).

The GX2 T.O.R.O. is optics-ready via a direct-mount slide cut with an RMSc footprint.

The GX2 T.O.R.O. takes all of the features that made the original GX2 a value-laden option and adds red-dot sight mounting capability. Its slide is cut for mounting optics with an RMSc footprint.

The GX2 is designed as an affordable and no-frills handgun, but optics-ready capability is now considered a standard feature.

The remainder of the pistol’s features match the original. It is a striker-fired, polymer-frame semi-auto pistol chambered in 9 mm with a stainless-steel fire control chassis. In addition to a trigger safety, the GX2 also has a manual thumb safety.

The GX2 T.O.R.O. has all of the features of the GX2 introduced in 2025, plus an optics-ready slide.

The slide is made of either alloy steel with a matte black gas-nitride finish or stainless steel with a natural matte finish. Its iron sights fit into Glock-pattern dovetails for aftermarket compatibility. With a 3.38-inch stainless-steel barrel, the GX2 T.O.R.O. has an overall length of 6.19 inches, a height of 4.89 inches, and the gun weighs 19.04 ounces. A Picatinny accessory rail is molded into the dustcover of the frame. Magazines hold 13 rounds, with 10-round versions also available. One magazine is included with each pistol and spares have an MSRP of $38.

The introduction of a T.O.R.O. version of the GX2 proves that red-dot optics on handguns have become a necessity and not a luxury.

The GX2 T.O.R.O. will initially be offered in four finish options: black frame/black slide, black frame/stainless-steel slide, flat dark earth (FDE) frame/black slide and cyan frame/stainless-steel slide. All versions of the GX2 T.O.R.O. have an MSRP of $300.
