As firearm suppressors get more popular, one area that is often overlooked is shotgun suppressors. Whether using them for busting clays or hunting, shotguns are high-volume firearms, meaning that they are a perfect platform for all of the benefits of using a suppressor, including reductions in both sound and recoil. Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) introduced its VICTRA-12, a 12-ga. modular shotgun suppressor, last year. This year, the company is bringing out a 20-ga. version with the VICTRA-20.

The VICTRA-20 brings a 20-ga. option to the shotgun suppressor market for hunting and sport.

Like the 12-ga. version, the VICTRA-20 is a modular suppressor made of 7075 aluminum and 17-4 PH stainless steel. Aluminum components are given a black anodized finish, and steel parts have a Melonite finish. As a modular suppressor, the VICTRA-20 can be assembled in four different overall lengths. Assembly rods are available in 4, 6, 8 and 10-inch lengths for the VICTRA-20. Each pair of rods has an MSRP of $45. In its full-length configuration it weighs 22 ounces. At 10 inches it reduces sound to 132 dB, while in its shortest four-inch configuration the resulting sound level is 138 dB and weighs a mere 12 ounces.

The modular VICTRA-20 can be assembled to 4, 6, 8 and 10-inch lengths.

Unlike other shotgun suppressors, the VICTRA uses a choke that is separate from the mount. Choke thread pattern options for the mount include Beretta/Benelli Mobil, Benelli CRIO Plus, Beretta Optima HP, Browning Invector (Mossberg 500, Winchester), Browning Invector Plus and Remington. Mounts are made of 17-4 stainless steel with a Melonite finish and add 0.950 inches to the overall length of the barrel when installed (MSRP $107). A choke “cone” is installed in the front of the VICTRA. Improved Cylinder, Modified and Full choke cones are available for the VICTRA-20 (MSRP $57), and each VICTRA-20 ships with an Improved Cylinder cone.

VICTRA suppressors use a mount that attaches to the shotgun’s choke thread (Remington pattern pictured).
Chokes are separate from the mount and are installed in the front of the suppressor.

Once the suppressor is installed on the shotgun, the suppressor is attached, and a jam nut is used to keep it properly oriented its offset design. VICTRA suppressors have an oval-shaped blast chamber (with a height of 2.7 inches and a width of 1.95 inches) that gives the proper volume while maintaining the sight picture of a traditional shotgun bead.

The Yankee Hill Machine VICTRA-20 has an MSRP of $890. For more information, see the company’s website.
