The old, industrious city along the great and mighty Susquehanna River is teeming with excitement for all ages. Aside from being the state’s capital, Harrisburg has a lot to offer tourists. And with the NRA in town for the week, the excitement is sure leave a lasting impression. I know it has for me.

The Great American Outdoor Show has a special place in my heart. Going back to the early 2000s when I first ventured onto the ice-laden roads to Harrisburg, Pa., well before our NRA took the reins 10 years ago, I looked forward to that yearly show. But back then, though, guns weren’t on display like they are today. Fortunately, now, we can handle some of the industry’s latest offerings; guns that were recently unveiled at SHOT Show, like the latest Colt Python and Smith & Wesson’s hot new Model 1895 lever-action rifle. You can move booth to booth, checking out new Savages, Marlins, H&Ks, Mossbergs and many more.

Quieter areas within the firearm hall can also be found showcasing the latest suppressors, optics, tactical gear and ammo. There’s lots to see, and that’s why I’ve always made it a multi-day trip. The PA Farm Show Complex size and layout can be dizzying, too, so it’s important to get yourself a map and acquainted with what to expect. I prefer downloading the 2024 Great American Outdoor Show mobile app. It is interactive and a must-have tool with instant access to seminar schedules, event lists and more.

With a sprawling 650,000 sq.-ft. of event space, it’s hard not to delve into the many clothing products, fishing products, outfitters, boats, archery gear, food vendors and more. The halls are packed with something for everyone. There’s even an indoor archery shoot. All these details can be found at GreatAmericanOutdoorShow.org.

Between the mobile app and the website, you’ll have access to great deals on hotel accommodations schedules and more. If you’d rather fly by the seat of your pants, that’s fine, too. Just be sure to bring a good pair of shoes and hefty bag for all the goodies you’ll be leaving with. We hope to see you there!
