Takedown rifles, compact shotguns and rifle-action pistols are loads of fun to take to the range but not so easy to case and transport. The compact and rifle-action handguns tend to be too large for handgun cases while sliding around in the unused capacity of a long-gun case. The two halves of a takedown need to be secured and protected but few bags are properly sectioned off or pocketed to fit the components.

Copper Basin recently released the next generation of the company’s incognito Takedown Firearm Backpack. The original version was sized primarily for the Ruger 10/22 Takedown rifle and 10/22 Charger pistols. The latest version has been resized to comfortably store and transport a variety of additional models, including:

  • Alaskan lever-action takedown rifles
  • AR and AK Pistols
  • AOW and compact shotguns
  • Henry Survival AR-7 Rifle
  • Kel-Tec Sub-2000 Rifles
  • Kriss Vector Gen II SDP and SBR
  • SIG Sauer MPX SBR, MPX-K SBR, PMPX
  • Zenith Firearms MKE Z-5RS, MKE Z-5P, MKE Z-5K

The pack’s exterior colors, logo, and configuration match those of an ordinary day pack, making it equally at home in urban or wilderness settings. Mesh pouches, zippered pockets, and elastic tie downs provide cargo space for non-shooting items like binoculars and water bottles. Layers of structural foam obscure the rifle’s signature contours and the interior of the pack’s pockets have been lined with fleece to protect the firearm and reduce noise.

The interior pockets are shaped and laid out to accommodate firearm components, magazines and extra ammunition. The interior gun pockets can be quickly accessed from the top of the pack without having to open it completely. This comes in handy when walking through the woods. But if you are working from a shooting bench, the pack's clamshell design allows it to open and lay flat, like a shooting mat, for easy access to all of the interior pockets. Other features include rugged construction with heavy duty zippers, quality webbing and a stowaway strap. MSRP: $99.99
