Walker’s compact, lightweight (9.9-ounces) SSL muff is profiled for users with smaller heads, such as women and children. Comfort and proper fit are assured through the use of an adjustable, padded headband, anti-microbial butyl rubber ear pads and an additional hinge atop each ear cup.

To prevent gun mounting issues, each cup has a concave cheek relief. Powered by two AAA batteries (included), the muffs feature 50 dB of power, dual wind-resistant, high-frequency stereo microphones for upward of five times sound enhancement and directionality, as well as a noise-reduction rating of 24 dB.

The Sound Activated Compression (SAC) circuit protects the ear by reducing amplification of harmful sounds to safe levels. There are two independent volume controls. Available in gray and pink carbon finishes, Alpha SSL Muffs retail for $70.

The benefit of a lightweight rifle is lost the moment you top it with a clunky, overweight optic, particularly a lengthy one. To that end, we are starting to see an emphasis on riflescopes that are less cumbersome when mounted, such as Steiner’s Predator 4S.
