A Paulding County, Ohio, property owner acted in self-defense when he and a friend were caught in a confrontation with an alleged trespasser on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022.

Around 7 a.m. that morning, the property owner noticed a 28-year-old man trespassing on his property. After calling police, the 52-year-old owner and a friend got into a verbal confrontation with the man, which escalated. During this confrontation, the trespasser assaulted the owner's friend. The owner demanded that the trespasser stop the attack, but his protests did not cease the violence. Instead, it drew the man's attention, and he began to encroach upon the property owner in a threatening manner.

Armed, the owner then gave several more warnings to the approaching aggressor, warning that he would open fire, all of which went unheeded. As the man continued forward, the property owner fired a single round, which struck the trespasser in the hip, ending his advance. Police later arrived and discovered the wounded trespasser, who was taken to a local hospital. Authorities said they believed the trespasser was under the influence of drugs during the incident. After someone began pounding loudly on her door, a 23-year-old Franklin, Vt., woman grabbed her revolver and called a neighbor for help. Going downstairs, the woman confronted a trespasser in her living room and ordered the man outside, where a neighbor assisted in holding the intruder for police. The suspect taken into custody by police was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawful trespass. (The Free Press, Burlington, Vt.)
