Armed Citizen® Today

An alleged burglar is dead after confronting an armed man outside of the home he tried breaking into, according to police in Englewood, Ohio.

At 2 a.m. on Friday, January 3, a couple heard someone attempting to break into the house. The woman called 911 while her boyfriend armed himself. Before police arrived at the scene, dispatchers heard the sounds of a confrontation, along with gunshots.

According to the man who lived at the house, he thought the intruder had fled and went out to check his backyard shed. He then walked toward the front of the house to see if his vehicle had been broken into. There, the burglar confronted him and began moving toward him. The man, fearing for his life, fired three shots, killing the suspect. Police said the alleged burglar's behavior was unusual. "Most burglars, if they determine the home is occupied, once they're detected, they flee the area," Englewood Police Chief Corey Follick said. Police also noted that evidence gathered at the scene supported the couple's self-defense claims. (WHIO TV; Englewood, Ohio; 1/3/24)

Donald Murker tried to talk to a gunman who had fired a volley of bullets into a Seattle, Wash., restaurant, wounding a waitress. When that proved unsuccessful, the former security guard went to his car to retrieve his licensed .357 Magnum revolver but was shot by the gunman as he opened the door. Though wounded, Murker pulled the revolver and pointed it at the gunman, who froze. Murker then disarmed the man and held him until police arrived. (The Post-Intelligencer, Seattle, Wash.)
