Armed Citizen® Today

A wounded suspect is facing charges of attempted burglary of habitation, criminal mischief and criminal trespass after being shot by a homeowner in Bosque County, Texas, on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

According to the homeowner, the alleged intruder rammed his vehicle through a locked gate to access the property, then headed to the front door of the house, where he attempted to break into the residence. Police said that evidence at the scene supported the homeowner's statement. The attempted burglary was halted by the armed resident, who fired a round at the intruder, incapacitating him with a gunshot wound to the leg. When police arrived, the homeowner was holding the man at gunpoint.

Deputies provided medical aid to the suspect, and after he received treatment at a local hospital, the alleged intruder was taken into custody. (KWTX, Bosque County, Texas, 1/3/23)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – June, 1974

While a crook posing as a customer engaged a Chattanooga, Tenn., motel clerk in conversation, an accomplice armed with a sawed-off shotgun burst in and announced a holdup. The clerk, 68-year-old Lawrence Denton, yanked a pistol from a desk and fired at the man with the shotgun.

The latter fired once and missed, but two of Denton's shots found their mark. The wounded intruder died. His unarmed partner fled. (The Chatanooga News-Free, Chattanooga, Tenn.)
