Armed Citizen® Today

An unwelcome visitor was shot in the arm after attempting to gain entry into a residence in Erie, Pa., on Monday, September 23.

Just before 3:30 a.m., a woman, her boyfriend and five children were asleep inside of the house when the doorbell rang. The house was equipped with a Ring doorbell system, which allowed the woman to view the person at the front door. Neither the woman nor her boyfriend recognized the stranger. Nonetheless, the boyfriend went to the front door and opened it, giving the stranger an opportunity to attempt a forced entry.

In the ensuing struggle, a shot was fired, and the alleged intruder was hit in the right arm. Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found the suspect sitting in the front yard of the house with a gunshot wound. He was treated for his wound, and at the time of reporting, the investigation into the incident was ongoing. (GoErie; Erie, Pa.; 9/23/24)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – April 1975

When a man walked behind the drug counter of William Deeg’s Evansville, Ill., pharmacy, pulled a butcher knife and demanded codeine, Deeg drew his .38-cal. pistol and ordered him to stop. Knife in hand, the would-be thief continued to advance, and Deeg shot twice, killing him instantly. Local police records showed the holdup man had 41 previous arrests.
