In recent years, Walther Arms has expanded its PDP line of duty-size handguns to encompass a wide range of different formats, each tailored to a different subset of the shooting-sports community. One of its recent introductions combines the features of several other PDP handguns, meaning the Walther PDP F-Series Pro-X PMM is packed with a number of different design elements. Watch our latest "Gun of the Week" episode above to see the details.

"Let's unpack that a little bit, because there's a lot going on here," American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune said. "So Walther, last year, came out with its Pro-X PMM. Now the PMM in that stands for "Parker Mountain Machine," and that is the maker for this single-port compensator at the front of the barrel. And what that did is it made a compact, already-shootable platform even more shootable. Justin Dyal did the magazine review for that version of this, and he said that it took ammunition kind of down a power factor. So your +P loads felt like standard-pressure loads."

One of the notable features in this package is the Pro-X element, which highlights Walther's Dynamic Performance Trigger, which includes a metal shoe and a flat-faced design with a clean, crisp trigger break that allows for fast follow-up shots.

"Of course, Walther is known for its ergonomics, but one of the things that Walther had in its line already was its F-Series, and that was a gun that was designed primarily or aimed primarily toward a female marketplace," Brune said. "And Walther did a lot of work in its PDP line to make that accessible to women."

Notably, Walther's F-Series guns have a shortened distance between the front face of the trigger and the rear of the backstrap, ensuring that smaller hands are able to adequately reach the trigger with a full firing grip. Walther also redesigned the striker assembly in the PDP F-Series, going to a two-piece design that reduces the force required to pull the slide to the rear and get the gun into battery.

"So now with the addition of that PMM compensator, they've packaged all of those already-accessible features and made it even more shootable," Brune said. "So this is a great package, blending a lot of features we've already seen and loved in Walther's line."

Political Report | Federal Firearms Rights Restoration is Officially Back

Criminal-justice reform has been distorted to mean counterproductive policies like eliminating cash bail or politicized district attorneys exhibiting a determined indifference to violence, but there is a place for sensible reforms that allow genuinely rehabilitated offenders to reintegrate into the community of law-abiding citizens.
