Aguila is coming to the rescue of the cult of the 5 mm Remington Rimfire Magnum (RRM), whose members have felt abandoned since manufacture of the high-performing little cartridge halted in 1982. The new loading gives RRM owners a semi-jacketed 30-gr. hollow point generating 2200 f.p.s. of velocity and 352 ft.-lbs. of energy at the muzzle. By comparison, that’ll make the RRM’s trajectory flatter than the competing .22 WMR, while hitting with 40 percent more energy at 100 yds. than the .17 HMR. No wonder it’s legendary in rimfire circles for taking ’chucks and other big varmints. A global leader in rimfire, Aguila tested this market niche a decade ago with a short-lived run under the Centurion brand, and the Mexican loader is calling this current offering “limited production.” Likely that means its staying power will hinge on near-term demand, and though premium-priced at an MSRP of $29.99/box of 50, sales are reportedly brisk. aguilaammo.com
