GunMag Warehouse has launched GunMag Training (GMT), an instructional arm of the company. The training is lead by Daniel Shaw, formerly of Shaw Strategies and the United States Marine Corps. Additional cadre members are pending and will be announced in the next few months.

Courses take place in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, area with plans to expand into Ohio, where Shaw is teaching for the seventh year at the Ohio Tactical Officers Association Training Conference. The educational approach is not exclusively focused on marksmanship. It’s as much about being a good human being, controlling emotions, and practicing compassion as it is honing weapon manipulation skills and practicing situational awareness. A responsible armed citizen doesn’t need to be a "Tier One Ninja" but does need to be ready for the hard part—after a trigger press to ensure your safety or that of your loved ones.

GMT’s mission is to prepare those who carry a gun for such difficulties, and to promote a well-trained, reasoned and humanistic armed citizenry. A few of the topics covers include: life safety as it relates to the armed citizen and the use of force; contextual safety beyond the traditional four rules; effective weapon handling; mental and emotional preparation prior to an event; pragmatic expectation of what happens after an event; awareness of positional and locational engagement; practical understanding of the spherical environment; practicable marksmanship on demand, not command, and more.

Shaw, a retired Marine infantry leader and combat veteran, pulls from his extensive military career and a lifetime of experience to combine tactical acumen with the moral ethos appropriate to carrying a firearm. He will conduct a Handgun Vitals Course May 1 to 2 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, followed by a Patrol Rifle Problem Solver session June 7 to 10. A variety of others are available. Full details can be found on the GMT website.

Review: Steiner Predator: 4S 4-16X 44 mm

The benefit of a lightweight rifle is lost the moment you top it with a clunky, overweight optic, particularly a lengthy one. To that end, we are starting to see an emphasis on riflescopes that are less cumbersome when mounted, such as Steiner’s Predator 4S.

A Carry-Ready Classic: Outfitting A Ruger Speed-Six Revolver

Already a fan of Ruger’s long-discontinued double-action Security-Six, Police Service-Six and Speed-Six revolvers, I simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to acquire one of the latter in 9 mm Luger when an unfired, 42-year-old example turned up at a gun show.
