Armed Citizen® Today

The quick actions of a store employee thwarted the efforts of two armed robbers who held up a Family Dollar in Colorado Springs, Colo., on March 8, 2021.

The incident began when two young men entered the store and announced a robbery, with one demanding money from the clerk. The other robber then targeted a woman in the store and attempted to steal her purse as his accomplice held up the clerk at the register. Fearing for the customer and his own life, the clerk drew a hidden handgun.

The clerk fired once, hitting one of the robbers. This prompted the two robbers to flee the store. Authorities were contacted shortly after the incident at 6 p.m. The wounded robber was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his wound. Police were able to track down the identity of the second robber as well, who is charged with aggravated robbery. (kktv.com, Colorado Springs, Colo.., 03/08/2021)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives December 1991

Alerted when she saw a strange car drive up and the occupants knock on the door, a 19-year-old woman got a rifle and hid in a bedroom closet. When the men broke through a cellar door and entered the bedroom, she stepped out of the closet, trained the gun on them and ordered them out. They fled.
