62-year-old hearing-impaired woman reportedly shot a 31-year-old male intruder in her home around 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in LeFlore County, Okla. According to the LeFlore County sheriff, the woman saw the stranger in her home and yelled at him to leave, but he did not comply. She retrieved her rifle and again ordered him to leave. When the man advanced toward her, she fired one round at his chest. The man, who police say had a lengthy criminal history, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 70-year-old West Virginia woman defended her home with a .22-cal. rifle early one Monday morning. Upon awaking to the sound of glass breaking, the woman grabbed her trusty .22 and went to investigate. She found a man trying to gain entry into her home, at which point she shot him, prompting him to flee. When police arrived, they found the suspect lying in the yard with a gunshot wound. John Hofmaster answered an early morning knock at his Westmoreland, N.Y., door to be shoved aside by a man who scuffle with him until he managed to get the keys to the family car. Hofmaster broke free, retrieved a .45 semi-automatic and fired a single shot through the car's window as the thief tried to run him down. The bullet hit the man in the left arm, preventing his escape. (The Daily Press, Utica, N.Y.)
