Design and engineering go together like feathers in a pillow. For Kaiser US and its KSP X-7 Monarch rifle, chambered for 5.56x45 mm NATO, the sum of its parts equate to a rifle whose stature represents the Eugene Stoner AR design, but with a twist that makes the most of modern polymers, aluminum and steel.

Kaiser shaves additional weight by including its titanium bolt carrier that features an NP3 coating from Robar. The gun’s thin, stainless steel, Faxon Firearms barrel weighs 1 lb., 6 ozs. and is 16" long. The matched and tightly fitted receivers are molded with engineered polymer for resistance against shock, and contain an anodized insert as support for the buffer tube, fire controls and takedown pins.

Lightweight furniture from Mission First Tactical, combined with Kaiser’s quality components, provides for a durable rifle that is tested to the tune of more than 50,000 shots, and is available at a manageable price ($1,575). So, does weighing in at a scant 4 lbs., 2 ozs., classify the X-7 Monarch as “light as a feather"? We would like to think so. kaiserus.com
