The countdown has begun for the launch of the NRA Mentor Initiative, a nationwide movement that will run the entire month of May in an effort to help millions of new gun owners and budding shooters. Simply by reaching out to mentor a family member, neighbor or friend who seeks to learn the basics of gun safety and marksmanship, every NRA member can make a difference.

To sweeten the pot, participants can enter the NRA Mentor Sweepstakes for a chance to win valuable gift cards from Bass Pro Shops and the NRAstore. In fact, everyone is urged to enter today! For more information on the Mentor Sweepstakes, including how to view official rules and how to enter go to nrapublications.org/mentor.

The Mentor Initiative from NRA Publications in conjunction with SIG Sauer and Magpul Industries, is designed to be user friendly. Do it at your convenience. There are no schedules, long lines, big group dynamics, and little to no paperwork. To support your efforts, we’ve prepared a handy guidebook that covers essentials like safety, range etiquette, shooting fundamentals, and care and storage of firearms. Download your free copy of the "NRA Guide For New Shooters" toward the bottom of the page located at nrapublications.org/mentor.

Take advantage of the great weather finally here to get out and share your shooting know-how.

We’re now just one week away from Mentor May, from a big push to help neighbors and friends while at the same time building a stronger NRA. Join the editors of American Rifleman, along thousands of other NRA members, in helping newcomers. Tell them about what NRA does to safeguard our freedoms and encourage them to join our ranks. Through the simple act of mentoring, we can change our communities and country for the better.

No purchase or donation necessary. See official rules.
