Fans of Ruger’s SR1911 line now have a lightweight carry option, as the company announced the introduction of the SR1911 Lightweight Commander. Retaining all the features of the all stainless steel commander-style 1911, the Lightweight Commander shaves 7 ozs. off the weight of that model thanks to its black anodized aluminum frame, which comes in at only 29.3 ozs. with an empty magazine.

CNC machined, series-70-designed 1911s, the Lightweight Commander’s black anodized frame and satin stainless slide gives the firearm a two-tone look that sets it apart aesthetically from the rest of the SR1911 line. However, like the rest of Ruger’s 1911s, the Lightweight Commander is chambered in .45 ACP.

The new, American-made gun comes from the factory with a polished titanium feed ramp, lowered and flared ejection port, oversized magazine release, extended thumb safety, titanium firing pin, skeletonized hammer and trigger, serrated front strap, and Novak LoMount Carry three dot sights. It ships with two 7-capacity magazines, a bushing wrench, a cable locking device and a soft carrying case. Price: $899. Contact: Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc., 200 Ruger Road, Prescott, AZ 86301; (928) 541-8892; ruger.com.
