Mothers usually protect their children, but the tables were turned in Idaho when an adult daughter saved her mother from an assailant. Law enforcement officers were dispatched after a call came in about a disturbance in the neighborhood. As the police were responding, they were advised there had been a shooting at the house in question. They arrived to find civilians administering first aid to a 39-year-old man, who was shot by a 41-year-old woman. Emergency medical services personnel continued treatment, but to no avail. The armed citizen told officers that she fired because the man was attacking her 70-year-old mother. Witnesses and evidence supported the claim. Upon arrival, police discovered that the robber had missed four times, while the shop owner had fired three, one of which hit the suspect in the chest. The robber had already been taken by car to the hospital, where he was in critical condition. (WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, Pa.)
