On Election Day 2014, Jonathan McCormick was at home watching television. His wife was asleep nearby and his children were out playing when a man wearing a bandana entered, stuck a pistol to McCormick’s head and demanded money. McCormick emptied his pockets, but the robber demanded more. While the suspect turned his focus to McCormick’s wife, McCormick went into another room and retrieved a .45-caliber pistol. He pointed it at the masked man and repeatedly asked him to leave. Instead, the trespasser raised his own gun, prompting McCormick to shoot him. The robber later died. While no charges were filed against him, McCormick has received threats against his family via social media. He responded, “What would you do if someone came in and pointed a gun at your family? Who wouldn’t do the same?” (The Tennessean, Antioch, TN, 11/16/14)

The Armed Citizen® Extra
After having just been robbed in his home, a Pennsylvania man grabbed a gun and held the burglar at gunpoint before he could leave the scene of the crime. The homeowner and his wife woke up Saturday morning to find an armed man in their kitchen. Demanding money and food, the interloper held the couple for about 20 minutes in their living room before fleeing. Once freed, the man retrieved his gun and confronted the thief in the driveway while the woman called the authorities. The police arrived to find the resident pointing his firearm at the suspect, who was sitting in his car. The burglar has also been connected to several other property crimes in the area. No injuries were reported. (The Morning Call, Allentown, PA, 4/27/15)

March 1962
Clarence Williams was awakened and armed with a pistol by his mother, who had seen a prowler wearing heavy canvas gloves and a cap pulled low over his face forcing a window of their Houston, Texas, home. While Mrs. Williams phoned police, Clarence and his father, armed with a rifle, circled the house. As they closed in, the marauder shot the elder Williams in the foot, and then wheeled to shoot Clarence, but the hammer of his pistol caught in his heavy gloves. Clarence emptied his own weapon at the ex-convict and killed him. (The Chronicle, Houston, TX)

Evolution Of The BM-59

John C. Garand's gas-operated M1 rifle changed very little from its start as the T1 in 1927 until the end of its official production run in 1957, but then something unexpected happened.
