A Branch County, Mich., homeowner was on alert when he came home on Nov. 23, 2021.

When the homeowner arrived back home that Tuesday, he noticed that the door to his residence was left ajar, and became suspicious of possible unwanted visitors. Looking into the home through the living room window, the homeowner spotted a single intruder, facing away from him with a hatchet in hand.

In response to the sight of the unwelcome and armed guest, the homeowner walked back to his truck and retrieved a handgun and called police. He then entered his home and confronted the armed intruder, holding him at gunpoint. The dispatchers then got the homeowner to walk the intruder onto the porch and to wait for deputies to arrive.

When deputies did arrive, they searched the man and found 9 mm ammunition in his pocket that he had stolen from inside the home. The homeowner also discovered that the intruder had moved one of his shotguns into the hallway, and that a .45-cal. pistol and 20-ga. shotgun were missing. The 38-year-old intruder was arrested for the burglary, and as it turned out, had a long list of prior run ins with the law going back to when he was 18. Two men entered John Comer's West Knox County, Tenn., drug store and pulled revolvers on the owner, demanding money. Comer opened the cash register, ducked behind a counter where he hit an alarm alerting deputies, grabbed his .38 Spl. and came up firing at the men. The would-be robbers fled the store (The News Sentinel, Knoxville, Tenn.)
