A man broke into a house he had burgled before, but not everything played out as he remembered. After barging into a home with "large kitchen-style knives" in each hand, the intruder faced a new quandary: an armed homeowner, who shot him as soon as he icked in the door. The would-be intruder survived, and underwent surgery at a local hospital. (spokesman.com, Spokane, Wash., 7/5/2019)

December 1967
Shot 6 times, a Washington, D.C. part-time gas station attendant routed 2 hold-up men and held a third at bay until police arrived. Jumped by the armed trio in front of the station, Edward O. King, 24, drew a .32 revolver and traded shot for shot with the thugs. Two fled. Though badly wounded, King kept the third man cowering in a phone booth with an occasional shot in his direction. The latter was charged with assault with intent to kill. (Washington Evening Star)
