A man was working in his home office one afternoon when his home security system alarmed him of an open door. Figuring it was the wind, he closed it and went back to work. When the alarm went off again and he went to close the same door, he saw the door handle twist. He immediately locked the door and ran to grab his gun. When he returned, he stepped into his garage and saw the intruder run through the garage’s back door to the backyard. The homeowner caught the trespasser and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint until police arrived. The intruder was arrested on a burglary complaint. (The Oklahoman, Yukon, OK, 7/30/18)

After spending the night on a cot in his Detroit grocery, Simpkin Green awoke to find a man coming out of a cooler. He reached under his pillow for a .32 pistol and ordered the intruder to halt. When the command was ignored, Green fired, downing the stranger with a bullet in the knee. (Detroit Free Press, Detroit, MI)
