A resident of a Cherokee County, S.C., home was forced to defend himself when an intruder allegedly forced his way into the residence on Feb. 2, 2022.

Sometime after 2 a.m. that early Wednesday morning, the intruder kicked-in the front door and gained entry into the home, where a mother and son were residing at the time. As the intruder made his way through the interior of the residence, he came across the son and attacked the youth with an object. A struggle ensued, during which the son was able to access his handgun kept inside the home.

The embattled resident then fired a shot at his attacker point-blank, spurring the 29-year-old intruder to retreat from the home to a getaway car parked outside. The resident's shot had struck the intruder square in the chest, leaving him with a serious injury that resulted in him being declared dead once he was dropped off at the Cherokee Medical Center. As for the resident, he also was taken to the hospital for less-serious injuries from the encounter. (wspa.com, Spartanburg, S.C., 02/02/2022)
