Stoeger, best known for its semi-automatic, over-under and side-by-side shotguns, is now in the polymer-frame pistol business. The STR-9 in 9 mm Luger is made in Stoeger’s own plant in Turkey, and it bears more than passing resemblance to the Glock 19, as it has a trigger-blade safety, locks up and takes down like the Austrian gun. The STR-9 weighs 24 ozs. empty, is 7.44" long with a 4.17" barrel and takes 15-round-capacity detachable magazines. The deep cocking serrations, looking a little like the Beretta APX only canted, are at the black-nitrided slide’s front and rear. It can be fitted with one of three backstraps to adjust the grip frame to different users, and there is a three-slot accessory rail in the dustcover. The bare-bone guns with just the medium backstrap and one magazine has an MSRP of $349. Add tritium sights and two more magazines and the price is still just $449.
