The owner of a fireworks stand found himself facing an armed robber at 9 p.m. July 3 in Goodyear, Ariz. The suspect arrived at the stand as a passenger in a vehicle reportedly driven by a woman. As the armed suspect tried to rob the fireworks stand, the owner retrieved his gun and shot the suspect, who was transported to a hospital where he died. The woman reportedly fled the scene in the vehicle, found abandoned 20 miles away in Phoenix. Police have identified the woman as a person of interest and have asked for public assistance in locating her. The owner of the fireworks stand was not charged. (abc15.com, Phoenix, Ariz., 7/3/19)

A homeowner's son was able to save his life in Lake Murray one evening. When a burglar entered his home, the homeowner confronted the unwelcome intruder, who began began stabbing and otherwise assaulting the homeowner. During the confrontation, the homeowner's son retrieved a firearm and fatally shot the intruder, whose body was recovered in the backyard. (KUSI News, San Diego, Calif., 7/16/19)

Two armed men who had just committed a robbery gained entry into the home of Servado and Maria Elorza in rural Reedley, Calif. One of the intruders, threatening to kill the couple, followed Mrs. Elorza into a bedroom. Her husband grabbed a pistol and fatally wounded the man. The other intruder fled.
