home intruder met his end after breaking and entering into the wrong home in California. Just before 7 a.m., a burglar entered a Lancaster, Calif., home. Video surveillance showed the intruder tried to break into another home prior to this attempt. The man came in through a downstairs rear window and walked to an upstairs bedroom inside a family’s home. Fearing for the safety of his children, the homeowner armed himself and fired off a shot, which struck the intruder in the upper torso, killing him. According to police, the family was unharmed during the incident. An investigation was ongoing. (abc7.com, Glendale, Calif., 5/13/19)

A man who attempted to hold up a convenience store met with a little more resistance than he anticipated. The armed robber, who has since been identified, attempted to hold up a LaPlace convenience store around 8:50 a.m. one Thursday morning. Unfortunately for him, one of the convenience store workers was well prepared for the scenario, and shot the man in the neck. The would-be robber was taken to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition. (WDSULaPlace, La., 6/13/19)

July 1980
After repeated burglaries at his Pleasant Grove, Tex., used goods store, owner Ernest Graf and his 15-year-old son started sleeping in the office. Awakened by noises on the roof. Graf armed himself with his shotgun and waited. When the would-be burglar was half way down a rope he had secured to the skylight, Graf switched on the lights and held him at bay while his son called police. The intruder, it turned out, was wanted for three Dallas-area murders. (The Times Herald, Dallas, Tex.)
