masked intruder allegedly entered a home the morning of Aug. 18 in Lexington County, S.C. and struck three people with the butt of a shotgun before being shot in the chest by one of the occupants. The 26-year-old man was reportedly attempting to steal a safe from the home. Police arrested him after he was released from the hospital and charged him with numerous crimes. An accomplice, who reportedly drove him to the home, was also arrested and charged. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the homeowners are not being charged. (WIS News 10, Columbia, S.C., 8/22/2019)

A woman on her lunch break stopped an assault and robbery outside a Miami Popeye's restaurant. When she was at the fast food joint getting lunch, the woman saw the robber outside, beating on his victim. The victim was bleeding profusely, so in fear for his life, the armed woman intervened, firing at the assailant. The suspect ran away, but was detained nearby, while the victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene. (local10.com, Miami-Dade County, Fla., 9/19/19)

A 33-year-old Seattle, Wash., woman was in bed late at night when she heard noises in another part of the house. A man suddenly entered her bedroom, saying he'd kill her if she didn't keep quiet. Pulling a pistol she keeps hidden near the bed, the woman fired twice, killing the man with a shot to the chest. (The Post-Intelligencer, Seattle, Wash.)
