Alien Gear Holsters recently introduced the unique ShapeShift modular holster system. Like previous Alien Gear holster models, the ShapeShift incorporates interchangeable polymer "shells" that allow a particular holster to support different pistol models. But the ShapeShift takes this modularity a step further by allowing an individual shell to be converted into different types of holsters. The Starter Kit ($99.88), introduced last year, provides the components for a shell to be configured as a strong side inside-the-waistband (IWB), an appendix carry IWB, rotating paddle, belt slide or wall-mounted holster.

This year the ShapeShift system configuration options will continue to grow with the addition of new Expansion Pack accessory sets. The recently released Drop Leg Carry Expansion Pack ($41.88) is fully compatible with components from the ShapeShift Starter Kit, Cloak Mod OWB Holster, and both Double and Single Cloak Mag Carriers. This tactical position secures the firearm in the same position that our hands naturally rest for a quick and intuitive draw. It will also support one or two magazine pouches in order to free up your belt for other accessories.

The soon-to-be released Ankle Carry Expansion Pack ($37.88) is made with lightweight, plush CoolVent neoprene and low-profile hook and loop fasteners so there's no need for additional padding. This makes it more streamlined for easier concealment. Offering six ride height levels, it's designed with an an upper and lower strap to draw additional support from the heel and the base of the ankle instead of just relying on calf braces or garters. The system is designed to handle all sizes of the ShapeShift shell, not just compact or subcompact models.

SHOT Show attendees got a sneak peek at two more of Alien Gear's planned ShapeShift systems that are still in the prototype stage of development. One is a self cooling in-the-waistband holster with an innovative micro fan and air baffle system that looks quite promising. The other is a shoulder rig that blends synthetic and leather components for all-day comfortable wear.
