While emptying them can be a lot of fun, loading semi-automatic handgun magazines, particularly those of the double-stack variety, is a time-consuming and oftentimes-painful chore. A universal loader designed to accommodate nearly all single- and double-stack center-fire pistol magazines, without the need for inserts or spacers (although a single-stack insert is available) the Maglula UpLULA not only cuts loading times considerably, but also makes the task far easier on the fingers.

The process is simple and intuitive; after loading the first round by hand, place the UpLULA over the top of the magazine, squeeze the unit closed so that the loading gate contacts the top cartridge, then press down, slide a round into place and release your grip. Repeat until the magazine is full. With only a little practice, a loading rate of one cartridge per second is easily achievable. And the benefit of the loader is especially felt when trying to get those last few rounds into a particularly tight magazine.

A protrusion in the back of the unit is also helpful for manually unloading magazines. The Maglula UpLULA’s patented design weighs only 2.55 ozs., yet is solidly built to shrug off a considerable amount of abuse. It is compatible with most .380 ACP, 9 mm Luger, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10 mm Auto and .45 ACP magazines, including those for the M1911, and is available in six colors. Price: $40.
