Knowing and understanding external ballistics in variable weather conditions is indispensable to the long-range shooter. That understanding is taxed as target range increases and weather conditions change. The Kestrel 4500NV with Horus ATrag Ballistics provides both current weather readings and ballistic data to provide the shooter with instant aiming solutions out to 4,000 yards, all in a 5x1¾x1-inch housing.

Weather-mode measurements include direction (true and magnetic north), date, time, wind speed, crosswind, headwind/tailwind, temperature, wind chill, humidity, heat index, dew point, wet bulb, barometric pressure, altitude and density altitude. The unit is capable of storing data at rates from once every two seconds for 46 minutes, to once every 12 hours for 700 days.

In Horus mode, the 4500NV allows the shooter to load, customize and store multiple guns, rounds and targets, with appropriate ballistic and target information for different scenarios. Gun and cartridge parameters include muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficient, bullet weight and diameter, zero range, bore height, rifling twist rate, and sight adjustment. Target parameters include distance, angle, longitude, speed, direction and wind. After automatically combining the various parameters, the unit computes the elevation- and windage-adjustment requirements for up to five targets at a time. Price: $590
