Armed Citizen® Today

A Tacoma, Wash., man came to the rescue of another when a crook attempted to carjack him on July 18, 2021.

The victim was sitting in his vehicle outside a laundromat that Sunday, when a 29-year-old man approached him and told him that his car had a flat tire. When the man got out to check his tires, the crook jumped into the driver's seat. The victim rushed in to stop the carjacker, and a struggle ensued during which the thief grabbed the keys. In desperation, the victim called out for help, which another man heard.

The other man, who was working on a nearby house, witnessed the commotion and rushed over to help. He pulled a gun and ordered the would-be carjacker out of the vehicle, and he complied. The crook then turned his attention to the armed witness and looked to his gun, saying "Oh, I need that." The crook then produced a pipe and began approaching the man telling him to "Shoot me." The armed witness gave several verbal warnings to the encroaching armed carjacker, before finally shooting him in the leg. Police arrested the wounded carjacker and he was charged first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. (thenewstribune.com, Tacoma, Wash., 07/22/2021)

Stacy Wattenbarger was working on his truck when he saw a man break in the back window of a neighbor's Decatur, Tenn., home. He called the sheriff's department and, along with two other neighbors cornered the burglar coming out of the house with valuables and held the man at gunpoint until authorities arrived. A suspect was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and third degree burglary. Police commended the neighbors for their quick action. (Post-Athenian, Athens, Tenn.)
